3. Bearded Dragons need 3 things in their environment to prosper: A heat lamp, A UVB lamp and an aquarium of at least 50 gallons in size.

4. Bearded Dragons will require you to get a 2nd job just to feed them during their first year unless you are prepared. Prepared means get a breeding colony of bugs (dubia roaches are the best) going either before or soon after you purchase your dragon. They only eat live prey and will fling any little pellets that you try to feed them right back at you in disgust. With crickets being 10 cents combined with their voracious appetite  of 20 – 30 crickets a day means…yikes!

5. Obe of the bearded dragon facts that can kind of worry you at first is that beardies will brumate once a year or so. Essentially, they stop eating and want to be left alone. It resembles a mild hibernation and usually happens in the winter.

6. Bearded dragons like to be saked for about 15-30 minutes once a week or so. Do in the sink with warm water and keep an eye on him so he doesn’t try to hop and hurt himself.

7. Beardies like being outdoors on a hot summer day. Put him in a patch of clovers and he’ll try to catch the bees that alight on the flowers and munch on some of the clovers as well.

8. Newspaper is the best material to place on the bottom of his cage. Sand is possibly the worst. Sand sticks to everything including their food. Newspaper is easy to change and readily available.

9. Haven’t noticed your beardie going #2 for awhile. Put him in water. Never fails to get the ole’ beardie bowels moving.

10. Always dust your bugs with calcium powder every day for the first year, then weekly after that. No calcium means no bones means deformed lizard.
